Have you ever noticed that the things that come easy never last very long at all, and the things that actually do last a long time, are never easy to come by? Kind of makes you wonder doesn’t it? Well it makes me wonder.
I’ve always had what you would call an “inquisitive” nature, I’ve always wanted to get to the bottom of things that interest me, that’s probably one of the reasons that I am such a prolific reader of books.
Anyway, back to the matter in hand, can you think of the last thing that came easy to you that managed to last a long time?..Its OK, you take your time, I’m not going anywhere. It’s very difficult isn’t it? Now on the other hand I am sure that you have things, whether they are physical objects like cars, and houses, or intangible achievements, like a Masters Degree for example, that didn’t come easy, but have lasted the test of time.
What comes easy won’t last, and what lasts won’t come easy, it is one of the great paradoxes of life. The things that come easy to us are not revered by us, because we haven’t invested time, and blood, sweat, and tears into it, we tend to take it for granted, no one appreciates easy money, easy women, or easy opportunities, everybody wants them, but if they are lucky enough to get them, they don’t appreciate them.
On the other hand, when people attain things that they had to struggle to achieve, that they had to work hard for, that cost them their time, that cost them their energy, that cost them their money, that cost them their commitment, then they are far more likely to appreciate these things due to their own investment in attaining it, these things, both tangible and intangible are far more likely to last than things that came too easy.
When you set your goals, aim high, set the bar as high as you possibly can and work your way to achieving whatever it is that you set out to, when you eventually achieve your goal you will really appreciate it and all the hard work that you had to put in to achieve it, whereas if it comes to you to easy, then you will find it extremely difficult to appreciate it.
Remember, what comes easy won’t last, and what lasts won’t come easy.
