An Item You Find in the Kitchen May Also Be a Natural Remedy For Acne

While doctors do provide some relief from acne outbreaks with antibiotics, birth control pills and other prescription drugs, the cost in both money and your health cause you to look for other ways. Doctors cure people, however, some of the powerful drugs they use also have powerful side effects. That is why many people often look for a natural remedy for acne.

Natural remedies for acne can include things that go inside your body and substances you use on the acne directly. Some foods, including herbs, provide additional vitamins and minerals to help your skin fight the effects of an acne outbreak.

Acne comes from dead skin cells that do not slough off properly mixing with excess sebum produced by the body. The two block the small hair follicles and create a bump on the skin. This is the perfect environment for the bacteria causing the acne to grow. The more bacteria that grows, the more their waste inflames the skin and eventually it spreads to other parts of the skin.

What goes inside your body should be foods that help you prevent the increased androgen, the hormone responsible for causing the release of additional sebum. It also should contain the nutrients good for your skin. The healthier your skin, the better chance you have that it will not stick together to block the pores or it can fight off the growth of the bacteria. Since everyone has the same bacteria, but not bacterial overgrowth does not affect everyone, it simply makes sense to improve your diet. Best of all, while this may not be help enough to ward off all out-breaks; it can only help you and will not hurt you.

Not all healthy food is healthy for acne. Citrus contains phyto-androgens that might make your condition worse. These plant hormones trick the body into creating more sebum and that leads to additional blemishes. Other foods containing phyto-androgens are wheat germ oil and wheat germ, coconut, parsnips, spinach, celery, corn, garlic, onions, oats and pine nuts.

Other items in the kitchen might help you slow down acne. One of these is oatmeal, used as both a facemask and facial scrub. If you cook up a batch and allow it to cool to body temperature then apply it to your face, it draws out impurities, removes dead skin cells and tightens the pores as it dries on your face. A bit of oatmeal mixed with a small amount of water and massaged on the face acts as an exfoliant as it removes the dead, sticky skin cells.

Emu oil is oil that comes from the fat of an emu, a bird that resembles the ostrich. This oil is antimicrobial and has the same chemical composition as the skin. Studies show that it helps treat skin infection that resisted antibiotics while stimulating the production of healthy skin. While doctors often recommend this oil to treat diabetic sores and surgical sites, it also helps clear other skin infections while maintaining the proper balance of oil. This is particularly important to the older acne victim.

Simply laying cucumber slices or tomato slices on the face as you rest is another natural remedy for acne that many people find beneficial to their skin. The slight acidity of the tomato helps remove dead cells, much like a very mild chemical peel. The cucumbers moisturize the skin and soften the sebum plugs as it does that so you can wash them away.
